Arusha National Park as a full Tanzania experience

Arusha National Park is one of the most scenic parks in northern Tanzania, offering a unique combination of landscapes and wildlife within a relatively small area. The park covers approximately 552 square kilometers and provides visitors with a variety of natural attractions and outdoor experiences. The park is dominated by Mount Meru, an impressive volcanic mountain that rises to 4,566 meters and offers one of the most rewarding trekking experiences in Tanzania. The mountain’s slopes are covered with dense forests that are home to black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and a variety of bird species. Another highlight of the park is the Momella Lakes, a group of shallow alkaline lakes that attract thousands of birds, including flamingos, herons, and pelicans. These lakes create breathtaking scenery and are one of the best spots for birdwatching. Visitors can also explore the Ngurdoto Crater, often referred to as “Little Ngorongoro.” This lush volcanic crater is surrounded by forest and grasslands where buffalo, warthogs, and other wildlife can often be seen grazing. Although Arusha National Park does not have large populations of predators like lions, it is rich in other wildlife such as giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, antelopes, and numerous bird species. In fact, the park is known for having one of the highest densities of giraffes in northern Tanzania. Because the park is located only about 40–60 minutes from Arusha city, it is an ideal destination for day trips or as the starting point of a northern Tanzania safari that may continue to parks such as Serengeti, Ngorongoro, and Tarangire.
